Vermont Rep: Teacher Strikes Very Divisive

Teacher union officials have power over more than teachers’ pocketbooks. Teachers have been subject to violence to themselves and loved ones for crossing the picket line during a teacher strike. Teacher union officials One Vermont legislator is taking a step in the right direction by banning teacher strikes. Representative Kurt Wright of Burlington wants to take a step in the right direction and ban teachers strikes.  Tiffany Danitz Pach has the story on VTDigger.org.

 The House Education Committee heard from lawmakers who want to revive an effort to take the “nuclear option” out of teacher contract negotiations by prohibiting strikes while telling school boards they cannot impose contracts.

Wright said teacher strikes are “very divisive and very disruptive to any community that has one.”
