Nina Rees on Charter School Week

Many charter schools allow teachers to teach and represent themselves in negotiations with their employer, meaning they are not hamstrung by the strictures of a monopoly bargaining agreement in which every teacher is paid the same regardless of his or her expertise and performance.  Charter schools provide flexibility needed to teach children with all needs.  Nina Rees emphasizes the importance of National Charter Schools Week.

This week, we celebrate two pillars of American education during National Charter Schools Week and National Teacher Appreciation Week. While union activists may see the two events as being at odds with each other, I believe that no sector stands to empower and elevate teachers more than the charter school movement.
