Teacher Union Members Run for Office

Education week reports on the surge in union political activity, including members running for office.  Keep in mind:

We collected the information from a variety of sources, including teacher organizations, news reports, and direct submissions through an online form.

Of a total of 159 candidates as of September 5, it seems all are running for state level jobs, including Senator, Representative, or Assembly member.

Of the 91 who have already experienced a primary, 56 candidates lost their primary and 31 won.  Another 56 are running unopposed.  Seven have not made it through a primary yet, and 5 are write-ins.

The parties they are representing are almost equally divided between democrat and republican/independent.
