SUMMARY:Was Your Union Already At The School When You Were Hired?
DESCRIPTION:Why is it that a significant number of teachers have never been allowed to vote on their union representation? And\, is there anything that I can do about being denied a vote?\nIn today’s CEAFU Lunch Break\, we delve into the pressing issue of why teachers are often precluded from voting on whether teacher union officials should have exclusive control over school working conditions. Once a union establishes dominance within a school\, dislodging it can be a formidable challenge. However\, alternatives exist\, and certain states are initiating measures to empower current teachers with the right to oust a union that may have been entrenched for decades. Joining us to explore these matters and respond to live audience inquiries are two distinguished experts: Larry Sand and Milton Chappell. \nLarry Sand\, an educator with firsthand classroom experience\, currently leads the California Teachers Empowerment Network as its president. This non-partisan\, apolitical organization is committed to equipping teachers and the public with trustworthy\, impartial information on professional associations and educational policy stances. \nMilton L. Chappell\, a seasoned staff attorney at the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation based in Springfield\, Virginia\, brings 38 years of legal expertise to the table. His career is marked by a dedication to representing nonunion public employees and teachers\, advocating for their rights in high-profile cases before the United States Supreme Court\, as well as various federal and state courts and administrative bodies\, challenging the impositions of mandatory unionism. \n
