Florida Teacher Union Officials Work the Rule

Freedom-loving teachers deplore the phrase.  The Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association is conducting a “work to the rule” protest in Florida. Teacher union officials are not happy with the district’s relationship with county charter schools (most likely not unionized), among other things.  Taking the relationship into consideration, is it really a good time to “protest”?  Marlene Sokol has the story on tbo.com.

“Working the contract,” a week-long protest against the Hillsborough County School District’s labor stance, is precisely as it sounds, according to this fact sheet from the teachers’ union. If the contract says to stay after school every Tuesday for a faculty meeting, the teacher will stay.  If she is being paid extra to tutor during lunchtime, she will tutor during lunch time.
