Eastland-Fairfield Staff Strike Despite Board’s Willingness to Compromise
Staff at Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools have gone on strike, demanding higher pay despite the school board’s willingness to negotiate. According to Eastland-Fairfield spokesman Ryan Gasser, the board has already agreed to eight out of nine recommendations from a third-party fact-finder and has acknowledged the need for changes in their cooks’ compensation package.
The board has proposed a 3% raise, but union representatives from OAPSE #686 have rejected the offer, insisting it is not enough. Despite efforts to reach a compromise, the strike continues, creating disruptions for students and school operations.
While negotiations remain ongoing, it is important to remember that participation in union strikes is voluntary. No employee is required to strike, and those who choose to continue working have the right to do so without pressure or retaliation.
