New Jersey Teacher Union Treasurer Charged with Stealing Dues

The Barnegat Education Association teacher union treasurer was arrested for theft after it was discovered that more than $20,000 in dues dollars were missing from the union’s accounts.  It is alleged the suspect used forced dues and union money to buy personal items for himself and other family members.   MaryAnn Spoto has the story on nj.com.

The investigation into the alleged activities of Wayne Wedderman began Oct. 21 after board members of the Barnegat Education Association reported about $23,000 missing from union accounts, which he controlled for two years, Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato said.

In the investigation, prosecutor’s Detective Brad Frank and Agent Stephen Shadiack determined Wedderman, 42, of Forked River, wrote checks against two of the association’s accounts for his personal expenses and the expenses of family members, Coronato said.

Wedderman was charged with theft and computer theft, a charge arising from accessing a bank’s computer network to withdraw funds, Della Fave said.
