Another Strike Against Illinois

The West Chicago High School Teachers Association is using its strike power to force its will on District 94. Mailee Smith points out Illinois is surrounded by states which prohibit strikes.  These states also have Right to Work laws which permit teachers to make a decision as to whether they wish to join a union or refrain. Strike permit laws and an absence of Right to Work make 2 strikes against the state for teacher freedom.

A teachers’ union in West Chicago is using its strike power as a cudgel to force 22 percent pay raises over the next five years.

That’s a deal taxpayers cannot afford. According to estimates provided by the school board, the union’s demands would require more than twice the amount of new revenue the district projects it will receive over that time period.
