SDEA Union Ousted by Gompers Prep Teachers After Years-Long Uphill Battle
Gompers Preparatory Academy Charter School teachers have been fighting to get out from under the SDEA union since 2019. Each time, they’ve been blocked either by the union themselves or from the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), which generally takes up for the union.
Now, nearly four years later, teachers have successfully gotten their wishes to remove the union and be free from its grasp once and for all.
Between May 10 and June 6 of this year, the PERB collected ballots from the teachers, and the results were undeniable: The vast majority of Gompers teachers did not want union representation and voted to decertify the union altogether.
There was no way for union bosses or the biased PERB to weasel out of this one with such clear voting results. Thus, they were forced to dismantle union power and hand freedom back over to the teachers.
