Union Corruption: AFCME President Byron Clemons Sentenced to Prison

On August 2, 2023, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, Byron Clemons, Sr., former President of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 124 (located in Alton, Ill.), was sentenced to 18 months in prison and 24 months of supervised release. He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and pay $202,100 in restitution and a $100 special assessment. On April 11, 2023, Clemons pleaded guilty to Interstate Transportation of Stolen Money, in violation of 18 U.S.C. 2314. The sentencing follows an investigation by the OLMS Denver-St. Louis District Office.DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
