Indiana University Graduate Workers Strike: Important Notice for Faculty

The Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition (IGWC-UE) has initiated a three-day strike at Indiana University Bloomington, pushing for better wages and working conditions for graduate employees. IGWC-UE representatives have made their intentions clear, with spokesperson Sabina Ali stating:

“Our goal is to create a culture of striking on campus, and plan a strike every semester, if possible, until they recognize us.”

It’s clear that their aim is to disrupt the university’s operations regularly, adding pressure on the administration through repeated disruptions. The broader consequences of these strikes, including the strain on academic progress and campus life, should be considered heavily.

As the strike unfolds, it’s crucial for faculty to be aware of their rights regarding participation. Participation in union activities, including strikes, is entirely voluntary. Faculty and staff cannot be forced to join or support the strike.
