Teamsters Strike Disrupts Bethlehem Area School District First Day of School
As the new school year began this year, secretarial and clerical workers in the Bethlehem Area School District went on strike, led by Teamsters Local 773 union boss Dennis Hower.
This created disruptions that negatively impacted the first day of school for students. The strike, organized over demands for better wages and working conditions, left schools understaffed, resulting in delays, confusion, and a strained environment for both staff and students.
Without the essential support staff in place, many school operations were affected, potentially causing administrative delays, disrupting communications with parents, and hindering the processing of important student information, thus adding to the chaos of what should have been a smooth start to the academic year.
It’s important to note that participation in union strikes is entirely voluntary. Teachers have the right to choose whether or not to strike, and cannot be forced to participate in union actions if they wish to continue providing education to their students.
