NJ Teacher Union Officials Nix Raises
Do teacher union officials speak for their members? Apparently not. Read how New Jersey teacher union officials are denying teachers a raise that has yet to be negotiated into the contract. Jonathan Lin has the story in the Jersey Journal.
Mayor Jimmy Davis is defending his intentions in proposing that teachers be given pay increases while contract negotiations continue, denouncing the teachers union president’s statement that he is “union-busting.”
Davis recommended last week that the city school board and union agree to increase teachers’ pay following the salary guide in their expired contract. He has said his proposal is not “a contract offer or negotiation tactic” but rather “an attempt to restore faith in the ongoing process.”
