Tactics That Drag on too Long are a Drag

For weeks now, Jesse Sharkey, president of the Chicago Teachers Union is deliberately stalling on contract negotiations, calling for a strike to begin on October 17.   This tactic shows just how selfish and uncaring teacher union officials can be.  No doubt he is resorting to Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals # 9:   The Threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself. Parents, students and teachers who just want to teach, are already being held hostage by Sharkey.   He should read Alinsky Rule #7:   A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.

Chicago Teachers Union President Jessie Sharkey couldn’t be bothered to speak with investigators about child sex abuse in Chicago Public Schools [CPS].

So says an official report for CPS prepared by former Illinois Executive Inspector General Maggie Hickey. She was hired by the district following reports of what one federal official called “extraordinary and appalling” child-protection failures in the state’s largest school district.
