More Teacher Union Endorsement Shenanigans
Mike Antonucci shares insight into the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) presidential endorsement game. Will rank and file members really be able to pick their own candidate for endorsement? Here’s the scoop on Intercepts.
AFT’S Executive council approved a resolution
. . . that ‘urges the affiliates, members and leadership, including the three AFT national officers, to be actively involved in supporting and helping Vice President Biden, Sen. Sanders, and/or Sen. Warren” for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Sanders has already been endorsed by the Vermont AFT affiliate, Washington, D.C. affiliate, and the United Teachers of Los Angeles, for a total of approximately 45, 000 members. Elizabeth Warren has been endorsed by the Massachusetts Federation of Teachers (AFT/AFL-CIO), a co-endorsement with Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden. Joe Biden does not list any teacher union endorsements on their own.
