UFT Officials Tell Teachers They Do Not Have to Teach Live

Flaunting the administration’s rulings, United Federation of Teachers  (New York City) union officials are telling teachers they do not have to teach live regardless of what school administrators say.

Different school districts across the country have tried different techniques for distance learning.  The Zoom platform was plagued with security problems, and was dropped.   Some teachers have developed other techniques and others have opted out completely, preferring worksheets assignments with no direct instruction.

While some educators have gamely managed to conduct video teaching in some form during the coronavirus lockdown, many parents say their kids rarely interact with their instructors — sometimes for more than a week at a time.

Both the UFT and DOE have signaled that some form of remote learning is likely to continue at least temporarily next academic year.
