UE Union Strike at Dartmouth College Creates Significant Student Challenges
Graduate student workers at Dartmouth College have initiated a strike in association with UE Local 261, causing significant disruptions to campus operations and services. The strike, which began on May 1st, is led by graduate students demanding higher wages, better benefits, and improved working conditions. However, the aggressive tactics employed means severe disruptions.
The strike, timed to maximize its impact during a critical period in the academic calendar, has forced the cancellation of classes, research activities, and other essential services. Workers from the dining hall have joined in on the strike, making food access unavailable to undergraduate students who rely on the dining hall for their meals.
While the graduate student workers seek to pressure the administration into meeting their demands, it’s important for faculty and staff to recognize that participation in the strike is entirely voluntary. No one should feel compelled to join under any circumstances, regardless of union affiliation status.
