Some Post-Janus Plans

Teacher union officials are giving serious thought to their post—Janus plans. Mike Antonucci reports on a presentation by the AFT. Taking a leaf from the Saul Alinsky “Rules for Radicals”, AFT officials seem to be appealing emotionally to their activist members’ ideology to stir them into action.

A great deal of time is spent on so-called “window periods” during which teachers may resign. Please contact the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation if you wish to resign your membership but are being prevented because of a “window period” regulation.

The unions will argue that engagements with the government as an employer are fundamentally different from those with the government as sovereign, and that workplace “coherence” makes it necessary for non-members to subsidize the majority position. They will claim that fee-payers are not supporting unions’ political speech in any meaningful way.
